My name is Carol, and I am so happy you chose to come and stay for a while.
Once upon a time, 20 years ago, I had a vision of creating a beautiful wellness / retreat center. In my vision, I saw a mighty eagle soaring way up high in the sky over the mountains. The scripture Isaiah 40:31 came to mind:
“But those who wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength. They shall mount up with wings like eagles. They shall run and not grow weary. They shall walk and not faint.”
This vision was so powerful that I chose to get a tattoo of a soaring eagle in the mountains to symbolize externally how I wanted to live my life internally. My vision did not come to fruition at that time, however, as I continued to live my life, I was being Divinely Led to fulfill my Calling!
I have lived in many places: Born in California, lived in Colorado for 15 years, was a Peace Corps Volunteer in Liberia, West Africa, Virginia, Maryland and Delaware. Then I got a call from a social worker in a Florida hospital, saying, “Both of your parents are in the hospital. If you don’t come down now, the state will take over. Mom had Alzheimer’s and Dad had acute double pneumonia. I took care of them until they passed away. Of course, I miss my parents, however it was an honor to care for them and a very sacred experience to be with them during their transition. After they passed away, I thought that Ocala, Florida would be my forever home.
Fast forward, after experiencing trauma and PTSD neuropathy, I was desperately looking for a natural way to heal myself. This is when I sought out a functional medicine doctor and utilized many healing modalities to help me. At the time, I was studying massage therapy, however, I could not do it when I was so sick. I desperately wanted to be in the healing arts and felt like I was missing my calling. However, I came to the realization that I needed to heal myself first. This is akin to offering everyone else my oxygen mask when I was spiritually asthmatic. I was so fragile and very emotionally reactive that I was not at peace. An acupuncturist suggested that I try energy healing. I went to an incredible energy healing workshop in Star Valley, Wyoming that was a pivotal time for me! Not only did I begin to heal, I also fell in love with the mountains again! I had lived in Colorado for 15 years, but never lived in the mountains. Additionally, it had been at least 30 years, over half my life, since I had been out West and in the mountains. It was so incredible! When it was time to go back to Florida, I drove back to Salt Lake City to catch my flight. My GPS told me to take a road into Idaho. I did as it suggested. Then, it stopped working, as if to say, “I have found the perfect destination!” Now, I panicked for two reasons. First, I was afraid I was going to miss my flight and secondly and more importantly, all I wanted to do was hoard pictures of the beautiful mountains around me. It never occurred to me that I might move out west! When I got back to Florida, a friend asked me, “That sounds like your Happy Place! Why don’t you move there? What’s keeping you?” My first thought was, “You can’t always have the mountain top experience!” My friend said, “You deserve it!” I thought, “Whatever that means!” I guess she meant it because I took care of my folks. It was also at this time that I discovered the healing power of Yoga Nidra and attended a 10 Day Yoga Nidra Immersion and Facilitator Training at the Ashram of the Amrit Yoga Institute in Salt Springs, Florida! This was also life changing! I decided to heed my friend’s advice and not only “Move to my Happy Place” but also manifest my Vision from decades ago!
I finally decided to start looking. Star Valley, Wyoming was too expensive, so I decided to check out Idaho. I had visited a girlfriend in Northern Idaho and thought it was beautiful. I didn’t know anything about Lowman. I just concluded that I wanted to live in the mountains (not close to the mountains), close to Boise (so it doesn’t take forever to get here), some land, close to water and no homeowner’s association. I found this place and bought it cash, as is, sight unseen with no regrets!
Living in Lowman, Idaho is not for the faint of heart and I have had my challenges, however, I believe Lowman is my forever home on earth. I believe everything that has happened thus far on my healing journey has led me here to share this oasis with souls from around the world!
Eagle Horizons Mountain Oasis has been operating now since August 19, 2017, which is my inaugural weekend and Total Solar Eclipse! It truly was magical and out of this world! I set the intention that I wanted people to come for spiritual or scientific reasons and that is what happened! I had guests from India, Mexico, Germany and six different states! One guest was from India, an astronomer, director of a planetarium in New Deli. She brought observation equipment and a whole team of people right to Eagle Horizons Mountain Oasis! It was the most magical experience! Even though we had guests from all over the world, everyone functioned like family! This is also part of my vision, to welcome everyone who enters. Connection, especially now, is so rare and yet so desperately needed.
At Eagle Horizons Mountain Oasis, you will experience a feeling of unity! I love having my guests put a pin in the maps to indicate where they are from. It is like a celebration of all the EHMO family members!
